Social Bookmarking

There are over 300 social bookmarking sites on the web and more are being added everyday. The process of Internet empowerment continues unabated and ‘Social Bookmarking’ is the latest phenomena to hit the SEO rail road.

No other form of web traffic building is so spontaneous with search engines constantly updating themselves with Internet chatter in real time. In fact Google often displays the latest ‘Tweet’ form Twitter on it’s own search results and that shows you how seriously Google takes it – considering they don’t own it!

From a ranking perspective search engines view social bookmarking as evidence of authority – although one has to be careful about spamming bookmarking sites – generally submissions count for a lot and it is generally believed that Social Bookmarking is a great way to be ‘Current.’ Most website owners are surprised at the range of topics that can be covered on these sites.

A further added benefit is that the Social Bookmarking sites have good ‘Page Rank’ – this is not to be confused with natural search position. ‘Page Rank’ is a loose indication of a websites authority, so when these sites link to you it has a positive impact on how search engines perceive your site.

A good example of a Social Bookmarking Site and probably the most well known is Twitter, however there are hundreds more that you may never have heard of.
